Becoming a Certified Assessor

Join a network of distinguished PAS assessors from across the nation. Once certified, an assessor has access to an online version of the PAS that generates a computerized report from the assessment data.

Step 1: Attend PAS Reliability Training (PDF) and achieve 85% or higher reliability on an assessment of learning outcomes.

Step 2: Complete a Certified PAS Assessor Application (PDF) and submit it with the $125 application fee to the McCormick Tribune Center for Early Childhood Leadership along with your current resume.

Step 3: Within four months of your participation in the PAS Assessor Reliability Training, conduct a PAS assessment of two early childhood centers.

  • At the conclusion of each visit, provide the director with a Director Interview Feedback Form along with a stamped envelope addressed to the McCormick Tribune Center for Early Childhood Leadership.
  • Complete the Assessor Interview Feedback Form.
  • Submit photocopies of the two completed PAS assessments (including Items 23, 24, and 25 for all applicable staff), all worksheets, and the Assessor Interview Feedback Forms to the McCormick Tribune Center for Early Childhood Leadership.

Step 4: Once all required materials are received, the two assessments will be reviewed and a feedback from for each will be returned. Upon satisfactory review of the completed PAS assessments, PAS Certification will be awarded. Certification is valid for two years and may be renewed through recertification. In addition to your certification, you will receive a professional quality, computer-generated, PAS Report for each of the centers assessed. Assessors who are deferred will have an opportunity to conduct another assessment for review within two months for an additional $125.
