Our state reguires that all employess have a certian amount of training within six months of employment and then continuing ed every year after that. In our area the training (which is specific) costs anywhere from $200 and up and takes about 40 hours to complete. Since I was told we do not have to pay for the cost of the classes but are required to pay hourly time, it put a large burden on my new staff. I now pay for the workshop in advance for the employee, they sign a contract agreeing to work for a specific amonut of time or the cost is taken out of their last paycheck. I then also pay a 'training wage" for the hours. My problem has been that this is usually a correspondence course and the full 40 hours are credited at one time. They usually complete the class at work so I either had to pay twice (once for the work time and again when the 40 hours were completed) or give them a week off with pay. Instead I give them "triaining wages" of about $ 1 per hour every week they don't work a full 40 hours until they complete the class. They worked 38 hours this week, they will get 2 hurs training hours. It was so much eaisier when I just paid for the classes. deb
