Which brings me to another question- what can be deducted from a paycheck? Sometimes my employees need an advance on their paycheck. I have them sign and IOU that states they agree to have it deducted from their paychecks- at no interest and ussually in incremnets. I also deduct child care costs, workshop costs if I pay for them in advance at the request of the employee. I bank childcare costs for one employee that has four schoolagers who only come in summer but I deduct a small amount from her check all year so she doesn't have to pay a big amount in the summer. These are the kinds of things I do, always with the employees consent and almost always in writing. I also have as part of the employee contract if they don't return their keys within 24 hours of temination of employment I deduct $75 to have the doors rekeyed (I was robbed by a fired employee a few years ago). I have never done it but is it legal? deb
