This was the first time I have attended the “Leadership Connections” conference. I was very impressed with the quality of presenters and the facility, and the attention to detail. Having attended other events hosted by the McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership, I have to say that I am not surprised. It seems as though a lot of thought goes into the set up, schedule, activities, etc. They really make such an effort to ensure attendees are comfortable and happy. I have come back feeling rejuvenated, and excited to share what I have learned with others.

Greg Mortenson’s keynote speech was so moving. I am truly amazed by the impact one person can have on the lives of so many children. This story is so inspiring. When I get frustrated by the policy issues related to Early Childhood, the inadequacies of public education and issues related to poverty, I have to remind myself that we do not have to wait for the rest of the world to get on board with what we know is best for children. We can make a significant difference now.

I attended 2 sessions with Keith Pentz which focused on learning and brain development. I really left with a lot of new information which I plan to share with my staff. This information has implications for our teaching methods and classroom environment. I also am planning on having each of my programs participate in the “Pennies for Piece” project to raise money for Greg Mortenson’s schools.
