I attended "Collaborative Supervision" with Bev Engel as the facilitator. She introduced us to a four step process that encourages the staff to take the lead in their professional development.
1) Individuals set their own goals for development
2) The supervisor links the staffs goals to the philosophy and program-wide goals.
3) The supervisor offers assistance and provides resources to assist in meeting each individual'
s goals.
4) Regular supervision meetings are scheduled to follow through on previously stated goals or newly made goals.
I really enjoyed this session and found it to be very helpful. She had us to list characteristic of our best and worst boss and tested our ability to listen. She helped us see that we all have some type of barrier to being a good listener. She encouraged us to continue to work on the areas of weaken as it related to the different barriers. Bev, shared that when supervisors meet regular with the staff this builds trust. Collaborative supervision is all about growing teacher. They are the heart of the program. They are my most valuable asset. So as the director I am to walk alone side of them and grow their competencies.
This was a great session.
