What do you do or do you see children do to physically enter into a process mode? (What I'm trying to get at with this question is how do we establish a "learning enviroment" for ourselves--and obviously how do children prepare themselves, too)
I am a very verbal person, as are many young children. I need to process things verbally-just get everything out there so that I can organize my thoughts and feelings into something I can move forward with. Sometimes my friends laugh at me and say I never finish a sentence when I am thinking out loud. I jump from thought to thought. Doing this helps me choose which thoughts to keep and which ones to let go.
I am also very kinesthenic (sp?) I sometimes need a physicall transition into the learning time, like cleaning my house to be able to focus on writing a paper. As I write this, my foot is really wiggling-I use my body movements to help me concentrate, which is why typing-although I am bad at it-helps me concentrate and write. Oh yes, I also need lots of caffeine to stimulate my attention, too!
I am not sure if this was the type of thing you are going for...
