Hi,
My name is Lisa Boggess and I am the technology associate at the McCormick Tribune Foundation for Early Childhood Leadership, at National-Louis University. I have a BME (Bachelor of Music Education), where we learned how to teach children and youth of all ages, including early childhood. I also hold a master's degree in Psychology.
Dorothy, I strongly agree with you that process is so important. I think that sometimes we're so focused on achieving an end goal, or pushing a child to accomplish something, and then label it as successful or unsuccessful. But, we fail to realize the growth that has taken place, whether or not the end goal was achieved.
Many times the most growth comes through the process of trial and error or struggling to reach a goal. Looking back in my life, I see that some of the times I grew the most were in my lowest points, where I felt like I was flailing around. But, in the end, I came out stronger. Without challenges in our thinking processes, we could never achieve our full potential (if that is even possible!)
Lisa.
