Leadership connection workshop
ECE-5821 or ECE 307 2s.h.
Instructor: Linda Butkovich
Being a director of an independent school, I don’t get a lot of support, but just attending the conference and meeting people, sharing ideas, sharing meals, and just being myself felt so great its hard to describe in words.
“Taking Charge of change” was a great experience itself, lots of information was given to us and we as a group shared lots of our ideas that has worked for us in our centers. I have been in this field for nearly 20 years, been a director for 14 years but never had the experience, knowledge or support what I have been given in the past year by taking charge of change.
My first reflection: The most meaningful conference for me was with Michael Brandwein about Making Supervision Super: Terrific Techniques for Leading Staff. He staged the setting of communicating with a staff member as a leader in the organization. He pointed out about how to make a staff member comfortable and ease. I already stated using those ideas and I found out how open my staff feels, they and I both feel that we are a great support system for each other, but to motivate and increase trust takes a lot of training and experience.
The main points were 1) Developing Successful Service & working relationship. 2) The critical key to building positive professional relationship.
3) A Dozen Do’s for Support.
Second Reflection: The overall conference was a very well organized, I felt that all aspects of learning and entertainment was well designed. The best part was meeting directors from different schools and getting to share ideas. Professionally for me it motivated me to take more collage classes in this field, the staff at the conference from National Louis was very supportive, gave me a feeling of belonging.
