As director, I had a highly recommended teacher who worked for me for three days. She walked out because of a family emergency in another state. I called her after several days to get information on what her plans were. She said she was returning to the area, but not returning to work. I informed her that I would appreciate her at least doing her two week notice. She refused.
The next time I heard from her was at a phone hearing for unemployment compensation. It was not going well at all. It appeared to be within her rights to leave without notice for an unspecified amount of time to attend to her father. What changed the tide was the fact that I pursued her to get her to return to work and she refused.
