Hello, This is so interesting as our school is heading into parent information night regarding our kindergarten program. Parents always ask about the goals for the year. As a team, we came to the conclusion that our true goals are to create children that have a love for learning, strive to be life long learners, learn to partake successfully in a community and learn about care of their environment, family, friends, etc. Educating parents on the whole picture is the key. It is so difficult to walk the fine line of talking about the benefits of the education system, without making promises. Of course, we always hope that a child will be advancing academically, but to create well rounded children is so important. The academics will come. Parents need to realize/be educated that their children will continue growing just in being curious about the world around them. It is our purpose, truly, to educate the parents as well. What is your view on educating parents? What resources might you have for supporting this as opposed to parents who really push the academics and miss the idea of letting a child be a child and the life lessons they learn?
