I agree that true learning does occur in the here and now moments. I have observed on some occasions when this has not been encouraged or even allowed. For example, when a child was exploring a "new" manipulative in the classroom and become excited about the new experience, the teacher redirected the child because choice time was over. I was shocked that the teacher did not start and encourage communcation with the child about his experience. Instead she felt it was more important to stay on the designated schedule. ( I do feel a routine is important for children, however I find the excitement of new experiences more important).
