I can not agree more! I work as a Director and at our location, the focus is on the Emergent Curriculum. Our goal is to really look at what the child enjoys, the interests he/she expresses and build off of those interests. I think that our goal is to help both parents and teachers to understand how important this is, instead of focusing so much energy on monitoring how much time the child spends in each area, or ending an activity with out taking the time to really live in that "teachable moment" with the child, asking open ended questions and taking their learning to the next level. Children will learn so much more if we just take the time to really watch, listen and build off of those interests.
