Nina,
Something you said in your response really struck me - something like "parents don't remember what it was like to play..." We did an exercise as a staff last week in reviewing our mission statement of our school. We reflected upon our own play experiences as children and found words to describe both our positive and negative play experiences. It was a very helpful exercise in looking at what we value as early childhood educators. One teacher suggested that we recreate this experience at our parent orientation night to help parents remember their play experiences as a way to explain why we believe that children learn through play. I thought it was an excellent idea.
