I know from other providers I email/correspond with that the training hours in rural areas are a very big problem. One provider in particular mentioned that although she can attend less than 2 hour classes in her nearby town that to find any 3+ hour trainings it is at least a 1 1/2 hour drive away. That is impossible for her. She said she asked NAFCC for clarification if she can take online courses and she didn't feel she got a complete answer. And she doesn't want to embark on taking the classes until she is confident they will count.
I am ever hopeful that our R and R will start offering longer trainings but like Sandy said previously, they didn't even know about the need until we told them. And they need to put the money into areas that will benefit the widest range of providers, not just a select group. I felt at that point that NAFCC should have been working with the R and R's before the new standards were put into place to encourage and help providers meet the standards, instead of putting up roadblocks.
