There are several ways to think about meeting this training requirement - The Family Child Care Institute is certainly one way for you to get some of those hours, even if you decide not to take the course for credit. Ida will be more familiar with the number of clock hours of credit that will be covered by the full institute - I'll try to get an answer from her about that.
Another way is to consider accreditation study groups through your association. Because the study groups will be building on each other they are considered more than a one-shot workshop. The association could offer certificates that include the full number of hours for the whole study group, even if the sessions are 2 hours in length individually.
We know that this requirement has challenged organizations to think about how they deliver training for family child care. Many resource and referral agencies and others working with providers who are pursuing accreditation are exploring how they issue certificates for training and are planning training that is more comprehensive.
I'm sorry that you're getting conflicting information from your accreditation specialist. Because this is a new requirement for the training hours there are still some gray areas - if you've asked specific questions and haven't gotten answers I'd be glad to see if I can help clarify issues.
