Hi Mary Louise,

Thank you for your response.

This child is 5.5 years old. He has been receiving RDI (Relationship Develop, ment Intervention). The parent told me that Johnny had improved a lot since the intervention. They have been working on “emotion sharing” and “referencing” (RDI goal) since last September. Recently the child is also on a research project aimed at increasing spontaneous social reactions. The RDI consultants also taught parenting skills and positive reinforcement behavior management at home. I think this child has a lot of potential in social and emotional development if all pitch in to understand his characteristics, build on his strengths (such as desires to be social and accepted), and use positive strategies with him. He can certainly benefit from learning along with the typical peers of his age.

Sincerely,

Xiuwen
