Administering
an effective and efficient early childhood program in today's world requires
expertise in computer technology. Let us help you improve your computer
skills and integrate technology into the management of your child care
program. This June the McCormick Tribune Center for Early Childhood Leadership
will be offering a computer technology course in which the content and
activities have been specifically designed for early childhood administrators.
Topics include:
- Maximizing the potential of the Internet as a tool
for research and online communication
- Creating memos, flyers, newsletters, and forms with
Microsoft®
Word
- Developing slide show presentations with Microsoft®
PowerPoint®
- Constructing spreadsheets with Microsoft® Excel
The course consists of four class sessions for a total
of 16 hours of hands-on instruction. Classes will meet on Fridays from
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at National-Louis University's Lisle Campus (850
Warrenville Road). The dates are June 1, 8, 15,
22, 2007. There is also
an online component that provides additional content and the opportunity
to communicate with the instructor and other participants outside the
traditional classroom. Those successfully finishing the course will receive
a Certificate of Completion. For Illinois Director Credential (IDC) purposes,
this training equals 28 contact hours or two IDC management competency
points.
Funding for this training is provided by the Illinois
Department of Human Services (IDHS). Participants' portion is only $50.
This includes instruction, a copy of Microsoft Office XP: A Training
Manual for Early Childhood Administrators, a flash drive, and all
other training materials. Enrollment is limited to 12 participants and
priority will be give to early childhood administrators whose programs
serve IDHS-funded children. Participants may also earn two semester hours
of graduate credit (ECE534, Technology in Child Care Administration I)
by paying an additional fee. The course is applicable to the core requirements
for National-Louis University's graduate degree program in Early Childhood
Administration.
