Coaching for Results

This professional development experience is designed to increase participants’ knowledge and skills in supervision, leadership, and staff development. The training is customized to the needs of the sponsoring agency and the identified participants—lead teachers, education coordinators, or site directors. Cohorts usually comprise 20 to 25 participants. The training includes approximately 50 to 90 hours of instruction over a 10-month period. Upon successful completion participants receive 2 semester hours of graduate credit from National-Louis University (ECE545, Strategies for Coaching and Mentoring).

A model of reflective supervision and individualized staff development is presented. To reinforce the concepts learned during training, participants do monthly field assignments relating to their specific job responsibilities and organizational context.

Topics include:

  • Tuning in to different communication styles
  • Supporting different learning styles and perceptual modalities
  • Promoting peak performance by creating a strengths-based team
  • Making connections through reflective supervision
  • Implementing an individualized model staff development
  • The nature of individual change and resistance
  • Achieving rapport and building cross-cultural sensitivity
  • Paradigms and perceptions – dealing with different realities
  • Orienting staff right from the start
  • Making the most of meetings
  • Creating a professional learning community
  • Promoting professionalism and ethical conduct
  • The Illinois professional development system

Cohorts are currently in progress sponsored by the Chicago Public Schools Office of Community Partnerships and the Archdioceses of Chicago Office of Catholic Schools. I would like to thank you for an absolutely wonderful and very valuable experience. I really feel it clarified and crystallized a lot of very important issues and beliefs for me.  It has also made me a better and more thoughtful teacher and person.  You can't say that about most workshops!
