Go for the Gold

The Illinois Director Credential (IDC) is the gold standard for excellence in Illinois validating a director’s accomplishments in early care and education. The McCormick Tribune Center for Early Childhood Leadership at National-Louis University is excited to offer a leadership training opportunity especially designed to support directors in their pursuit of the IDC.

Go for the Gold is a 10-month professional development initiative that provides training, on-site technical assistance, and additional professional growth opportunities to help directors achieve their credential. Participants are expected to make a commitment to completing the credential application process and to free themselves from work commitments on training days. Four half-day training sessions (8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) will be held at National-Louis University’s Chicago Campus:

Topics include:

  • Overview of the Illinois career development system
  • The Illinois Director Credential application requirements
  • Assembling a portfolio of professional accomplishments
  • Professional development opportunities

This professional development experience culminates in May with complimentary registration and two nights lodging at the nationally acclaimed Leadership Connections conference, held at the Westin Chicago North Shore. Participants will participate in a culminating IDC event during the conference.

In addition to workshop sessions and participation in Leadership Connections, participants receive 2 semester hours of paid tuition at National-Louis University (a $1,260 value) toward one of the following professional development opportunities: Fall or Winter Management Institute, Beginner or Intermediate Computer Training, or Leadership Connections online follow-up course. To offer additional support, a professional development advisor will schedule three on-site visits with each participant during this ten-month initiative. It is expected that quality time be set aside for these one-on-one visits.

Go for the Gold is funded by the Chicago Public Schools Community Partnership Program. There is no charge to the participant. Included in this training opportunity is full participation in all workshops, all texts and materials, on-site visits, IDC application fee, registration for Leadership Connections, and 2 semester hours of graduate tuition from NLU. This early childhood leadership training will be limited to 25 participants.
